Filipino receives first US anti-child labor award

A Filipino anti-child labor advocate received the first annual Iqbal Masih Award for the Elimination of Child Labor given by the US Department of Labor.

Another Filipino student was invited to attend the historic inauguration of US President-elect Barack Obama next week.

Pinoy Student to Attend Obama’s Inauguration

A 19-year-old college freshman cannot believe his luck: He is one of only two Filipinos to be invited to President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration, an event that excludes even his country’s president.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Paul Michael Pilares Cruz said, describing the moment the invitation arrived by mail from the Congressional Youth Leadership Council Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that has secured seats for students from around the globe.
