It might be a tad late but “Good Morning America” on ABC named the “Papaya” dance as the new international dance craze after “The Chicken Dance” and “Macarena.” Hosts Diance Sawyer, Robin Roberts, Chris Cuomo and Sam Champion tried the simple steps in the March 21 edition (US Standard Time).

The recognition is clearly belated as the craze peaked here last year. Edu Manzano even got the well-loved US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney to dance it with him after an interview in “Umagang Kay Ganda” last year.

The dance hit “Papaya” was first introduced in the country in the ‘70s which Edu revived by releasing a dance album last year. When used by the host as a gimmick in “Pilipinas, Game KNB?,” it turned into a national craze with frequent exposure and promo pitches.
